She has no concept of being protected by her father; all she knows is a father who sexually abused her for many years. She is not familiar with a father who shows her unconditional love; she knows a father who only accepted her when she behaved according to his demands. She does not know a father who disciplines the children he loves; she knows a father who physically and emotionally abused his family whenever he felt like it. She is not the only one.
Many people have a skewed perception of God our Father, simply because their relationships with their earthly fathers were not what God meant it to be. Some never even had a father.
You have a Father in heaven, regardless of your experience with your earthly father. It doesn’t matter who you are and what you look like. It doesn’t matter whether you are skinny or overweight. It doesn’t matter whether you are a member of the ‘in’ group or an outcast. It doesn’t matter what you have accomplished or never accomplished. It doesn’t matter what your qualifications are. And most importantly, it doesn’t matter what you have done in your past. None of this count.
God loves you with an everlasting love. His love is higher than the highest of mountain; there is no problem too big for Him to handle. His love is deeper than the deepest of seas; there is no depression so deep that He cannot bring you through it. His love stretches wider than the widest horizon; nothing you can do can disqualify you from the love of God.
He wants to be your Father. He loves you. He wants to comfort you. He wants to carry you. He wants to give you peace and rest. He wants to guide you. Will you let him?
2 Corinthians 6:18 – And (I) will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
