Do you know this old hymn? It’s been in my head for a couple of days already. Actually, this is a beautiful prayer. “Lord, be my vision”. In other words, show me where You want me to go. Show me where You want me to be. Tell me what I should say. Close my mouth when I should keep quiet. Lead me. Be Thou my vision. It’s powerful.
Our pastor said it very well last week. God doesn’t bless our plans. He blesses His plans that we are part of. Read it again. It’s revelation isn’t it.
We complain when things don’t work out, but we never asked God for guidance. We complain when our plans fail, but our plans didn’t include God. We complain about stress, fatigue and sickness but we are busy with things that God didn’t choose for us.
Maybe it is time to stop and reflect. What are we doing? Is it what God wants us to do? Are we still on the right track? If we do not live a fulfilled, blessed life, the answer is probably “no”.
We should be the fulfillment of Isaiah 40:30-31:
Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
When last did you ask God for guidance? When last were you so desperate for His insight that you fasted, prayed and seeked Him with all your heart? When last?
Let this song inspire you to change. Today. Not tomorrow. Today.
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art.
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.
Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.
Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.
Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.
High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.
