The stupid things we say

Standard

We have some really stupid sayings these days.  Really, really stupid.  Strange enough, I never realised it before.  Yesterday I heard somebody say something and suddenly it hit me.  I started thinking about it the seriousness of what we say once again came to mind.  May the Lord have mercy on us.

Example 1:
“Where did this come from?”
“Hell alone knows.”  /  “Die hel alleen weet.”
Really?  Do the devil and his demons know anything that God doesn’t know?  This is blasphemy if you think about it!

Example 2:
“Where does she live?”
“Some God forsaken place…” / “Een of ander Godsverlate plek…”
Wow.  God has never forsaken anybody.  God is omnipotent.  Blasphemy again.

Example 3 – one I haven’t heard in English, only Afrikaans.  This is the one that hit me so hard.
“Dis Gods-onmoontlik dat dit so kon gebeur het”.
Ouch.  Nothing is impossible for God. Nothing.

Wow people.  We need to think about our words before we give them life.  Words like these above are sinful.  They sneak into our everyday speech and we don’t even realise the seriousness of what we say so casually.  And then we wonder why our prayers seem to go unanswered.  With these phrases above, we proclaim unbelief in the deity of God and we don’t even realise it.  Shocking isn’t it?
