Joy of salvation

Standard

Have you ever been dirty? Not just a little bit, but really, really dirty? Can you remember what it feels like? Hair heavy with oiliness. Dirt and grime under your finger nails. Dirty clothes that smell of dust and sweat. Fury teeth. Dirty underwear. You get the picture right? If you are anything like me, the mental picture freaks you out. I hate feeling dirty.

Can you remember how good it feels to have a nice long shower to get rid of this dirty feeling? To stand under hot water and feel the dirt running off your body? To work up lots of lather with the soap. To brush your teeth and have a mouth full of smooth teeth again. Afterwards you feel so good. You feel lighter. You feel less tired. You feel like a brand new person!

Now think back to the day when you accepted Jesus as your Saviour. Do you remember how good it felt to be spiritually clean? Do you remember how joyful you were, knowing that your sins had been forgiven? Nothing could get you down! You were floating on air!

What happened to that joy? Life is tough I know and it’s hard to stay positive in a negative world. Stress creeps up on us and steal our joy. Satan makes life difficult for us and steal our joy. People let us down and steal our joy. If we don’t guard our hearts, we end up in a pit of depression.

Nehemia 8:10 – Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.

Psalm 51:12 – Restore to me the joy of my salvation.

We need that joy to survive. If there is nothing else today in your life to be joyful about, be joyful about your salvation. That alone is reason enough to smile all day long. You have the right to call the creator of the universe “Abba Father”. He knows your name. He knows how many hair you have on your head. He planned you. He knitted you together in your mother’s womb. You were fearfully and wonderfully made!

Be joyful!
