In Biblical times, the watchmen did duty on the towers of the city walls, constantly checking for danger approaching the city. If danger was eminent, they sounded the alarm. Did you know that you are a watchman?
Imagine this little scenario: You are driving at night in pouring rain. Visibility is terrible, you cannot see where you are going. You are approaching a bridge and just then the lightning lights up the environment and you see that the bridge has been washed away. There is just a gaping hole. By the grace of God you manage to stop in time. You catch your breath, wipe the sweat from your forehead and turn your car around. You decide to rather head back where you came from. While driving, many cars pass you, on the way to the bridge that is no longer there. You don’t try to stop them. You do not even try to warn them. You are just so happy that you are alive.
Would you do this? No?
We are saved by the grace of God and the blood of Jesus. We are on our way to heaven, but daily, many pass us, all on their way to hell. What are we doing about this?
Are we willing to share the gospel with those still driving in the wrong direction of life? Are we willing to stop in the pouring rain of life to help the one that got lost and don’t know which way to go? Are we willing to stop at the broken car on the side of life’s road to help the driver to get going again?
Galatians 6:1 “Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently”.
Matthew 28:19 “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”.
We are the watchmen on the towers of the lives of those around us. If they don’t make it to heaven, we are partly responsible.
